The candlesticks are an important element of the Shabbat and the festive table. Before each Shabbat or holiday, it is a Jewish mitzvah to light candles. The lighting ceremony is meant to remind us of God’s dual commandments to “remember” and “keep” the Sabbath.
As the two candles are lit by the woman of the household she waves her hands over the Shabbat candles, covers her eyes and recites the blessing: Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu, melech ha'olam asher kideshanu b'mitz'votav v'tzivanu l'had'lik neir shel Shabbat. . (Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to light the lights of Shabbat). Then she uncovers her eyes, and as she looks at the candles, the mitzvah of lighting the Shabbat candlesticks is complete. It is truly a graceful and meaningful ceremony.
In order to beautify this Mitzvah, it is common to use special Shabbat candlesticks, and a new pair of unique candlesticks can certainly make the candle lighting more splendid. Candle holders come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and styles. You may choose candlesticks that are small and simple or large and ornate. When you find the perfect candlesticks, they will compliment your décor and reflect your individual style.
A gift of new candle holders will be appreciated whether given on the occasion of a marriage, anniversary or for Passover. And of course, a set of distinctive candlesticks is the perfect house-warming gift.
